Tip: Paddle to the far side of the lake where fewer people go—it’s like entering a forgotten world.
Hike to Lake Danao – The Twin of Balinsasayao
Don’t miss the short forest trail that leads you to Lake Danao, the smaller of the two crater lakes. Along the way, you’ll encounter thick foliage, the sounds of exotic birds, and an observation deck where you can see both lakes from above. The trail is relatively easy and well-maintained—ideal for beginners and families.
Don’t forget your camera; the twin-lake view is postcard-worthy!
Go Bird Watching in the Protected Forest
Lake Balinsasayao is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Home to over a hundred bird species—including the Negros bleeding-heart pigeon and Philippine hawk-eagle—the area is one of the most biodiverse spots in the Visayas. Bring binoculars and a good zoom lens, and you might just catch a glimpse of rare endemic species.
Best time for birdwatching? Early morning when the forest is alive with birdsong.
Picnic by the Lakeside
There’s something timeless and peaceful about eating lunch surrounded by trees, with the lake shimmering nearby. Pack a hearty meal and settle into one of the designated picnic areas, or rent a small hut for shade. Many visitors bring local delicacies or enjoy a simple meal of grilled fish and rice.
Pro Tip: Bring eco-friendly containers and leave no trace behind.
Try Local Snacks at the Viewing Deck Café
Before or after your lake adventure, stop by the café near the viewing deck. It offers coffee, local snacks, and a magnificent panoramic view of the lakes below. Sip hot tsokolate (native chocolate drink) or kapeng barako while you soak in the mountain breeze—pure mountain serenity in a cup!
Discover the Rich Flora and Fauna
